PSALM 145:10-11, 12-13AB, 21

Your friends make known, O Lord, the Glorious Splendor of Your Kingdom.

GOSPEL

GOSPEL: John 14:21-26

Still at the Last Supper, Jesus tells His Disciple that He gives them Peace, and to not let their hearts be troubled.  Jesus is going to the Father, and exhorts them to rejoice in that.  The “ruler of the world,” the evil one, has no power over Christ.  The world must know that Christ Loves the Father and carries out the Father’s Commands, Whom Christ Proclaims is Greater than Himself.

Jesus said to His Disciples:
‘Peace I leave with you; My Peace I give to you. …
Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. …
… the world must know that I love the Father
and that I do just as the Father has Commanded Me.’

FIRST READING

FIRST READING: Acts 14:19-28

Paul is nearly martyred, as some Jews convince crowds to stone him.  They drag him outside the city, thinking that he is dead, only for disciples to gather around him, at which point Paul gets up and continues his mission.

Barnabas and Paul Proclaim the Gospel, adding a number of disciples and exhorting their fellow Christians to persevere in the Faith.

After  they had proclaimed the Good News to that city
and made a considerable number of disciples,
they returned …
They strengthened the spirits of the disciples
and exhorted them to persevere in the Faith, saying,
‘It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships
to enter the Kingdom of God.’

They appoint presbyters, or leaders, an action accompanied by prayer and fasting, commending them to the Lord. After they return to Antioch, they gather the Church together to report on their mission and its results.
