GOSPEL

GOSPEL: Mark 3:31-35

Jesus reminds us that we are in a familial relationship with Him, such that anyone who follows the Divine Will of God is like a brother or sister to Christ:

And looking around at those seated in the circle He said, ‘Here are My mother and My brothers. For whoever does the Will of God is My brother and sister and mother.’

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

PSALM 40:2 AND 4AB, 7-8A, 10, 11

Here am I Lord; I come to do Your Will.

FIRST READING

FIRST READING: Hebrews 10:1-10

The unknown author of the Letter to the Hebrews explains that, rather than focusing on the temple sacrifices of the old law, when Christ came into the world He dedicated Himself to doing the Will of the Father.

Obeying the Father’s Will has included Jesus’ Sacrifice upon the Cross, by which we all have been Consecrated eternally.

Brothers and sisters: Since the law has only a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of them, it can never make perfect those who come to worship by the same sacrifices that they offer continually each year. * * * … For this reason, when He came into the world, He said: ‘Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me … As is written of Me in the scroll, Behold, I come to do Your Will, O God.’
* * *
By this “will,” we have been Consecrated through the offering of the Body of Jesus Christ once for all.
