With 1:53 left in the first half, ‘Notre Dame’ had a 1st and 10 at the Boston College 44. Quarterback CJ took the snap out of the shotgun and dropped back to around his own 46.

Meanwhile, wide receiver Will Pauling streaked down the right hash about 12 yards before a quick, smooth move where he stepped one foot to the right then shifted quickly into a leftward angled veer across the middle, drifting towards the opposite hash downfield.

Carr threw the ball about 50 yards through the air with good timing and touch, and hit Pauling in mid-stride at the left hash around the 5. Pauling, already having gained more than a step over the cover man by virtue of his good cut, route running and speed, caught the well-placed ball cleanly and strided crisply into the end zone. The score put the Irish up 12-0 before they failed at a 2-point conversion.

Boston College would score just a minute-and-a-half later to make it 12-7 heading into the half.
