With the ACC failing to reschedule the game despite encroachment by Hurricane Matthew onto the region, Notre Dame and North Carolina State already have been battling driving rain, high winds and a sloppy natural grass field with visible standing water.  Now lightning has delayed the start of the second half by a half-hour, with Notre Dame reporting that play is to resume at 2:30 p.m. ET.  Ironically, according to the National Weather Service, lightning is not supposed to occur as often in hurricanes as in regular storms. North Carolina State leads at the half, 3-0.
