Gavaler, O.S.B., Saint Vincent Archabbey (Benedictines)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"padding:2px;\">\r\n<div style=\"float:left;\">\r\n<!---Catholic-Match---->\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tkqlhce.com\/hi117efolfn2A6B3C87243A463A324759B9438C333\" target=\"_blank\" onmouseover=\"window.status='http:\/\/www.catholicmatch.com';return true;\" onmouseout=\"window.status=' ';return true;\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lduhtrp.net\/lg98wquiom7FBG8HDC798F9B8F879CAEGE98DH888\" alt=\"CatholicMatch.com - Grow in Faith, Fall in Love\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/div>\r\n\r\n<div style=\"float:right;padding-right:5px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpbolvw.net\/click-7380954-10751355-1453823028000\" target=\"_top\">\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ftjcfx.com\/image-7380954-10751355-1453823028000\" width=\"336\" height=\"280\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a>\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\n<div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n<h3>GOSPEL<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/john\/15:1\" target=\"_blank\">GOSPEL: John 15:1-8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jesus is the Vine, God the Father is the Vine Grower, we are the branches, and we are exhorted to Bear Fruit for the Kingdom of God.<\/p>\n<p>Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, in one of her books, actually a collection of oral statements, reminds us how Jesus is the Vine and we are the Branches, and how on a vine it is the branches that bear fruit.<\/p>\n<p>While God excises those who <em>fail<\/em> to Bear Fruit, He\u00a0Cultivates those who <em>do<\/em> Bear Fruit, to Bear even more Fruit:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Jesus said to His Disciples: &#8216;I AM the True Vine, and My Father is the Vine Grower.<br \/>\nHe takes away every Branch in Me that does not bear fruit,<br \/>\nand every one that does He prunes so that it Bears more Fruit. &#8230;&#8217;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This Divine Pruning is tied in with Jesus providing His Disciples, and us, the Word of God.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8216;&#8230; You are already Pruned because of the Word that I spoke to you. &#8230;&#8217;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So we are reminded the importance of Holy Scripture, as well as the whole Body of Teaching that Jesus imparted to the Apostles.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus reminds His Disciples, and us, of the importance of being fully connected with Jesus, of the branches remaining on the Vine by being in Union with Christ.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Remain in Me, as I remain in you.<br \/>\nJust as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own<br \/>\nunless it remains on the vine,<br \/>\nso neither can you unless you remain in Me.<br \/>\nI am the Vine, you are the Branches.<br \/>\nWhoever remains in Me and I in him will Bear much Fruit,<br \/>\nbecause without Me you can do nothing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Christ also warns that those who do not remain in Him will be thrown out like a branch and wither.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Anyone who does not remain in Me<br \/>\nwill be thrown out like a branch and wither;<br \/>\npeople will gather them and throw them into a fire<br \/>\nand they will be burned.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So how do we remain in Christ and Bear Fruit? And what need we avoid, to not be the unfruitful branch thrown in the fire?<\/p>\n<p>Jesus already mentions the Word of God. \u00a0Elsewhere in the Gospels He also reminds us that we are to have a personal relationship with Him, recognizing His Voice.<\/p>\n<p>We show we love God by keeping His Commands, which, in part, are set out by the Word of God. \u00a0We keep His Commands by rejecting and avoiding sin, and by loving and serving others, especially those in need.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, such as feeding the hungry or visiting the sick, we also recall the Beatitudes, such as &#8220;Blessed are the Peacemakers.&#8221; he reported to them how he had seen the Lord,<br \/>\nand that he had spoken to Him,<br \/>\nand how in Damascus he had spoken out boldly in the Name of Jesus.<br \/>\nHe moved about freely with them in Jerusalem,<br \/>\nand spoke out boldly in the name of the Lord.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div style=\"width:50%; float:right;padding-left:15px;\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpbolvw.net\/click-7380954-5434248-1440532932000\" target=\"_top\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.awltovhc.com\/image-7380954-5434248-1440532932000\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a>\r\n<\/div>\n<h3>SECOND READING<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/1john\/3:18\" target=\"_blank\">SECOND READING: 1 John 3:18-24<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Saint John the Apostle, writing in one of his Epistles, exhorts us to love in deed and truth.<\/p>\n<p>Our hearts are known by God, and if we and our hearts belong to the Truth, we can have Confidence in God, to ask what we need and receive it, because we keep his Commandments and serve His Holy and Divine Will.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Children, let us love not in word or speech<br \/>\nbut in deed and truth.<br \/>\n&#8230;\u00a0this is how we shall know &#8230;\u00a0we belong to the Truth<br \/>\nand reassure our hearts before Him &#8230;<br \/>\n&#8230;\u00a0God is greater than our hearts and knows everything.<br \/>\n&#8230;\u00a0if our hearts do not condemn us,<br \/>\nwe have Confidence in God<br \/>\nand receive from Him whatever we ask,<br \/>\nbecause we keep His Commandments and do what pleases Him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As an aside, recall that the Latin roots of the <em>word<\/em> confidence mean &#8220;with Faith.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Note the connection between keeping God&#8217;s Commands, doing God&#8217;s Will, and receiving what we ask of Him.<\/p>\n<p>Recall also that, if we are keeping God&#8217;s Law of Love and Doing God&#8217;s Will, what we ask of Him will, itself, be in conformity with His Divine Will;
