Jesus Himself fasted in the desert. They seek me day after day,\u00a0and desire to know my ways,\u00a0Like a nation that has done what is just\u00a0and not abandoned the Law of their God;\u00a0They ask me to declare what is due them,\u00a0pleased to gain access to God. &#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>God does not want fasting that fails to produce conversion, holiness and progress along the Journey of Discipleship. He wants fasting that embraces penitence and humility.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Lo, on your fast day you carry out your own pursuits,\u00a0and drive all your laborers. Yes, your fast ends in quarreling and fighting,\u00a0striking with wicked claw. Would that today you might fast\u00a0so as to make your voice heard on high! Is this the manner of fasting I wish,\u00a0of keeping a day of penance: That a man bow his head like a reed\u00a0and lie in sackcloth and ashes?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Indeed, God wants fasting to bear fruit as mercy, such as lifting the yoke of oppression, sharing with the hungry and providing shelter to those who need it.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;\u00a0This, rather, is the fasting that I wish:\u00a0releasing those bound unjustly,\u00a0untying the thongs of the yoke;\u00a0Setting free the oppressed,\u00a0breaking every yoke;\u00a0Sharing your bread with the hungry,\u00a0sheltering the oppressed and the homeless;\u00a0Clothing the naked when you see them,\u00a0and not turning your back on your own. &#8230;.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Those who embrace holiness through acts of mercy will, themselves, be healed and receive God&#8217;s Divine Aid. \u00a0Their light shall break forth like the dawn.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Then your light shall break forth like the dawn,\u00a0and your wound shall quickly be healed;\u00a0Your vindication shall go before you,\u00a0and the Glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.\u00a0Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer,\u00a0you shall cry for help, and He will say: Here I AM!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div style=\"width:50%;
