&#8230; who can stand when He Appears?\u00a0For He is like the refiner\u2019s fire\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0He will sit refining and purifying &#8230;\u00a0he will purify the sons of Levi\u00a0&#8230; that they may offer due sacrifice to the LORD.\u00a0Then the sacrifice of Judah and Jerusalem\u00a0will please the LORD,\u00a0as in the days of old, as in years gone by.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>With the reference to years gone by, we see a theme of renewal and rebirth, of new life, as God not only purifies and refines, yet also restores.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, note the question about who can endure Christ&#8217;s Arrival. We require God&#8217;s Help, and God loves us enough to give us that Help.<\/p>\n<h3>RESPONSORIAL PSALM<\/h3>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/psalms\/24:7\" href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/psalms\/24:7\" target=\"_blank\">PSALM 24:7, 8, 9, 10<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Who is this King of Glory? The Holy Spirit had revealed to Simeon that while still alive on earth, Simeon would see the Christ.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230; Simeon\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0was righteous and devout,\u00a0awaiting the consolation of Israel &#8230;\u00a0the Holy Spirit was upon him.\u00a0It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit\u00a0that he should not see death\u00a0before he had seen the Christ of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0when the parents brought in the Child Jesus\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0he took Him into his arms and blessed God &#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Under the effect of the Holy Spirit, Simeon confesses that the Infant Jesus is the Christ, referring to Him as God&#8217;s Salvation, a source of Light and Glory. He prays:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8216;Now, Master, You may let your servant go in peace, according to Your Word,\u00a0for my eyes have seen Your Salvation,\u00a0which you prepared in the sight of all the peoples:\u00a0a Light for Revelation to the Gentiles,\u00a0and Glory for Your People Israel.&#8217;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mary and Joseph are amazed. Simeon blesses them and declares that the Child Jesus was destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel and that Mary a sword would pierce:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Child\u2019s father and mother were amazed &#8230;\u00a0Simeon blessed them and said to Mary &#8230;\u00a0&#8216;Behold, this Child is destined\u00a0for the fall and rise of many in Israel,\u00a0and to be a sign that will be contradicted\u00a0\u2014and you yourself a sword will pierce\u2014\u00a0so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.&#8217;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Note that Mary would not be martyred. Yet she\u00a0sometimes\u00a0is depicted in art as having her Immaculate Heart pierced by a sword. She would indeed endure sufferings, including seeing her Beloved Son Jesus, the Son of God, brutally tortured and murdered before her, as He laid down His Life upon the Cross to Redeem us for our sins and Save us for Eternal Life.<\/p>\n<p>Also in the temple at the time of the Presentation of the Infant Jesus is a prophetess named Anna. Anna is an\u00a0older widow who spends all of her time in the temple.<\/p>\n<p>Like Simeon, she realizes the significance of the Baby Jesus. She comes forward and gives thanks to God, and speaks of the Child to many.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>She never left the temple,\u00a0but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer.\u00a0And coming forward at that very time,\u00a0she gave thanks to God and spoke about the Child\u00a0to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mary and Joseph later take the Baby Jesus back to Nazareth, where the Holy Family presumably lives quietly and humbly.<\/p>\n<p>We then are told, in summation, all we know from Scripture\u00a0about Jesus&#8217; childhood and youth, other than the later story about the finding of Jesus in the temple when he will be twelve.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus grows and becomes strong and is filled with Wisdom, and the Favor of God is upon Him.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230; they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.\u00a0The Child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom;\u00a0and the favor of God was upon him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div style=\"width:50%; float:right;padding-left:15px;\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpbolvw.net\/click-7380954-5434248-1440532932000\" target=\"_top\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.awltovhc.com\/image-7380954-5434248-1440532932000\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a>\r\n<\/div>\n<h3>LINKS &amp;
