Jesus rebukes it and orders it to leave the man.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit;\u00a0he cried out, &#8216;What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?\u00a0Have you come to destroy us?\u00a0I know who you are\u2014the Holy One of God!&#8217; Jesus rebuked him and said, &#8216;Quiet! Come out of him!&#8217;\u00a0The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The people are amazed at Jesus&#8217; speaking with authority and His Power to expel demons.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>All were amazed and asked one another, &#8216;What is this?\u00a0A New Teaching with Authority.\u00a0He Commands even the unclean spirits and they obey Him.&#8217;\u00a0His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We are reminded to obey God&#8217;s Authority, and that no evil we face can stand before the Power of God.<\/p>\n<p>It also is interesting to note that\u00a0evil entities are naturally fully aware of God&#8217;s existence and Power and\u00a0freely admit it. In cases where human evildoers try to deny the Existence of God, or argue against the relevance of God&#8217;s Law, any evil entities ultimately\u00a0at the root of the human wrongdoing would themselves, ironically, have no choice but to admit the Reality of God and His Omnipotence.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"gold-soft-2\">RESPONSORIAL PSALM <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/psalms\/95:1\" href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/psalms\/95:1\" target=\"_blank\">PSALM 95:1-2, 6-7, 7-9<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>If today you hear His Voice, harden not your hearts.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"420\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2h_ZffDe4TE?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"gold-soft-2\">FIRST READING<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/deuteronomy\/18:15\">FIRST READING: Deuteronomy 18:15-20<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Moses tells the Israelites that a prophet like himself will be raised up from among them.<\/p>\n<p>He reminds them how they grew fearful at their direct encounter with God at Mount Horeb, and asked to be spared the shock of directly hearing God&#8217;s Mighty Voice or seeing the fires raised up by His Presence.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230; the LORD said to me, \u2018&#8230;\u00a0I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their kin,\u00a0and will put my words into his mouth;\u00a0he shall tell them all that I command him.\u00a0Whoever will not listen to my words which he speaks in my name,\u00a0I myself will make him answer for it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We are to follow God&#8217;s Words.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, God warns that a prophet should not presume to speak in God&#8217;s Name something which God has not commanded him to speak.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8216;&#8230; But if a prophet presumes to speak in my name\u00a0an oracle that I have not commanded him to speak,\u00a0or speaks in the name of other gods, he shall die.'&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span class=\"gold-soft-2\">SECOND READING<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/1corinthians\/7:32\" href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/1corinthians\/7:32\" target=\"_blank\">SECOND\u00a0READING: 1 Corinthians 7:32-35<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Saint Paul cautions us to\u00a0take care not to allow distraction or anxiety to divert us from adherence to God.<\/p>\n<p>He particularly notes the potential for married people to be occupied with earthly concerns due to their state in life.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Brothers and sisters:\u00a0I should like you to be free of anxieties.<br \/>\n*** &#8230; for the sake of propriety and adherence to the Lord without distraction.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course, in the current age, single life carries its own distractions and concern for earthly matters.
