In the Gospel of Matthew, starting in Chapter 5<\/a>, Jesus gives the Sermon on the Mount, beginning with the Eight Beatitudes.<\/p>\n

Blessed are the poor in spirit,
\nfor theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.<\/p>\n

Blessed are they who mourn,
\nfor they will be comforted.<\/p>\n

Blessed are the meek,
\nfor they will inherit the land.<\/p>\n

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
\nfor they will be satisfied.<\/p>\n

Blessed are the merciful,
\nfor they will be shown mercy.<\/p>\n

Blessed are the clean of heart,
\nfor they will see God.<\/p>\n

Blessed are the peacemakers,
\nfor they will be called children of God.<\/p>\n

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
\nfor theirs is the Kingdom of eaven.
\nBlessed are you when they insult you and persecute you
\nand utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of Me.
\nRejoice and be glad,
\nfor your Reward will be great in Heaven.
\nThus they persecuted the Prophets who were before you.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Jesus exhorts us to persevere and take comfort that God is Just and Merciful, and that God’s Way will prevail in the end.<\/p>\n

We see a before-and-after focus for each point Christ makes. \u00a0He speaks of what is experienced, endured or exemplified now, and what will happen later.<\/p>\n

We also see Jesus exhort us to certain virtues and virtuous action, such as:<\/p>\n
