But when he later attempts to collect his share of the vineyard&#8217;s produce, the tenants beat and eventually start killing the owner&#8217;s servants. \u00a0In the end, the owner sends his son, and the tenants kill the son. \u00a0Jesus promises that the owner will come, reclaim the vineyard,\u00a0kill the evil tenants, and give it to others.<\/p>\n<p>Some of those listening, instead of learning and repenting, start plotting to have Jesus arrested.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8216;A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it,<br \/>\ndug a wine press, and built a tower.<br \/>\nThen he leased it to tenant farmers\u00a0&#8230;.<br \/>\nAt the proper time he sent a servant to the tenants<br \/>\nto obtain from them some of the produce\u00a0&#8230;<br \/>\n* * *<br \/>\nSo, too, many others; some they beat, others they killed.<br \/>\nHe had one other to send, a beloved son.<br \/>\nHe sent him to them last of all, thinking, \u2018They will respect my son.\u2019<br \/>\nBut those tenants\u00a0&#8230;<br \/>\n* * *<br \/>\n&#8230;\u00a0seized him and killed him\u00a0&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Jesus has entered Jerusalem at this point, and will soon enter His Passion, Death and Resurrection.<\/p>\n<p>After the parable, Jesus quotes a psalm passage that is fulfilled in Himself.<\/p>\n<p>This passage also will later be quoted by Peter, after Pentecost, when Peter sets out to Proclaim the Gospel, explaining to all who Jesus Is.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8216;&#8230; &#8220;The stone that the builders rejected<br \/>\nhas become the cornerstone;<br \/>\nby the Lord has this been done,<br \/>\nand it is wonderful in our eyes&#8221; &#8230;&#8217;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div style=\"padding-top:10px;padding-bottom:10px;\">\r\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- faith-wp-respons-2 -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3210937145558786\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"5586646142\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script>\r\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\r\n<\/div>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n<div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div>\n<h3>FIRST READING<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/tobit\/1:3\" target=\"_blank\">FIRST READING: Tobit 1:3; 2:1A-8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tobit recounts how, when sitting down to a fine meal while exiled in Nineveh, he sends his son Tobiah out to find a poor kinsman, loyal to God, to come join them.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I, Tobit, have walked all the days of my life<br \/>\non the paths of truth and righteousness.<br \/>\nI performed many charitable works\u00a0&#8230;<br \/>\n* * *<br \/>\n&#8230;\u00a0a fine dinner was prepared for me\u00a0&#8230;<br \/>\n* * *<br \/>\nI said to my son Tobiah: \u201cMy son,<br \/>\ngo out and try to find a poor man<br \/>\nfrom among our kinsmen exiled here in Nineveh.<br \/>\nIf he is a sincere worshiper of God, bring him back with you&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Instead, Tobiah discovers the body of a kinsman murdered in the public marketplace. So he carries out one of the corporal works of mercy, burial of the dead. However, Tobit already has earned the wrath of the pagan rulers for burying the dead, including those who are the victims of the murderous pagan rulers.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Tobiah\u00a0&#8230;<br \/>\n&#8230; returned he exclaimed\u00a0&#8230;<br \/>\n&#8216;Father, one of our people has been murdered!<br \/>\nHis body lies in the market place\u00a0&#8230;&#8217;<br \/>\nI &#8230;<br \/>\n&#8230; carried the dead man from the street<br \/>\nand put him in one of the rooms,<br \/>\nso that I might bury him after sunset.<br \/>\n* * *<br \/>\n&#8230; at sunset I went out, dug a grave, and buried him.<\/p>\n<p>The neighbors mocked me, saying to one another:<br \/>\n&#8216;He is still not afraid! &#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While an Old Testament figure, Tobit provides an example of Christian charity, and respect for the dead.<\/p>\n<p>He also stands as a model of someone who persists in doing what is right, even when at the risk of persecution and death at the hands of evildoers.<\/p>\n<h3><div style=\"width:50%;
