Ukraine Had One of the World's Biggest Nuclear Arsenals and Gave It Up Voluntarily in Exchange for the Promise that Their Territory Would Not Be Violated; Russia Signed the Treaty

Ukraine once had one of the world's largest nuclear arsenals, which they inherited from the old Soviet Union.

They gave it up voluntarily, in exchange for the promise that their territory would not be violated.

Russia, of course, was one of the countries that specifically signed the related treaty, the 1994 Budapest Agreement, joined by the United States and the United Kingdom.

In addition to committing the internation crime of aggression, the Russian government, headed by President Vladimir Putin, have been additionally violating the Budapest Agreement for years now, with the Russian invasion and illegal occupation or Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula, the hybrid operation in the Donbas, and now the more overt illegal Russian invasion of 2022.
