“… the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right of the altar of incense. … the Angel said … ‘Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall name him John. … you will have joy and gladness … many will rejoice at his birth … he will be great in the Sight of the Lord. He will drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother’s womb, and he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. … to prepare a people fit for the Lord.'”

“This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When His Mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the Holy Spirit. … the Angel of the Lord appeared to [Joseph] in a dream and said, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the Holy Spirit that this Child has been conceived in her. She will bear a Son and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will Save His people from their sins.’ … she bore a Son, and he named Him Jesus.”

“The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. … Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Of her was born Jesus who is called the Christ. Thus the total number of generations from Abraham to David is fourteen generations; from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen generations; from the Babylonian exile to the Christ, fourteen generations.”
